Parish of St Matthew the Apostle,
Douglas, Isle of Man
Stations of the Cross
Opening Prayers
O Lord Jesus, my Saviour, I implore thy mercy
to apply to me the merits of thy passion,
on which
I am now about to meditate.
Grant that while I trace this
path of sighs and tears, my heart may be so touched with
contrition
and repentance, that I may be ready to embrace
with joy all the crosses and sufferings and humiliations
of my life and pilgrimage. Amen
O Lord,open thou our lips
And our mouth
shall show forth thy praise
O God, make speed to save
us
O Lord, make haste to help us
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son
And to the
Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever
shall be, world without end. Amen

About the Stations
The Stations of the Cross is a traditional meditation in which Christians have, for centuries, walked in the footsteps of Christ's passion on the road to Calvary.
The devotion consists of 14 stations, taken both from Scripture and tradition. At each station there is a small cross and may be an image depicting the scene to be meditated upon
The images on the following pages are taken from those at St Matthew's, where the Stations of the Cross can be followed each week during lent. See our Calendar page for details.
The stations images at St Matthew's were made by the Sisters of the Church and given by the congregation in 1958 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the consecration of Old St Matthew's.
